Alright, I'm sitting at my desk on Saturday morning with the GH7 next to me and a coffee that I've reheated twice, and — okay, this was a weird week. Not "weird" like April Fools weird, but weird like the industry sneezed three times in a row and each sneeze came from a different direction. We got new flagship glass from Sony and Canon within hours of each other, DJI and Insta360 finally took their US fight to actual court, and Fujifilm is very quietly prepping what looks like an X-T6. Plus we shipped nine articles on LensClear this week. My brain is full.

Sony and Canon both dropped serious glass on the same day (no, seriously, the same day)
Okay, let me start with the headline because it's genuinely funny timing. On June 18,
Sony announced the FE 100-400mm f/4.5 GM OSS at $4,298. Then, like, twelve hours later (I'm being approximate, don't quote me),
Canon officially announced the RF 20-50mm f/4 L IS USM PZ at $1,399, with retail availability set for June 24.
The Sony is a super-telephoto zoom for the Alpha system — weather-sealed, internal zoom, weighs about 1.4 kg, designed for sports and wildlife shooters who've been asking for a lighter GM option since the original 100-400 G was discontinued. I wrote about this one back when the leaks dropped, but now it's official. Photographers who've been waiting on a Sony 200-600 alternative that doesn't break your neck finally have one. The Canon RF 20-50mm f/4 L IS USM PZ is the more interesting one to me, because Canon has been
very conservative with their wide-to-standard zoom roadmap for RF. This one is power-zoom (PZ), has L-build weather sealing, IS, and at $1,399 it's the cheapest L-grade RF zoom you can buy. The power-zoom angle tells me they're aiming this at hybrid video shooters — think vloggers, run-and-gun, the FX3/S1H crowd. I haven't held it yet, but if the IQ holds up at the wide end and the power zoom is as smooth as Canon's cinema glass, this is going to be a default recommendation for anyone building an RF hybrid kit under $2K for bodies+lens.

DJI vs Insta360 finally hit the courtroom
This is the one I was waiting for. Remember back in mid-May when Insta360 launched the Luna Ultra in the US, timed almost perfectly to DJI's Pocket 4 Pro still being effectively blocked from US sale by the ongoing security review? DJI didn't say anything publicly. Until now.
DJI filed a motion last week trying to block Luna Ultra sales in the US, and Insta360
countersued in a US district court — I'm reading this off The New Camera's coverage, which has been tracking it since the embargo lift:

Look, I want to be careful here because I don't have all the docket details. The high-level version is: DJI is arguing patent overlap on the gimbal stabilization system, Insta360 is countersuing alleging anticompetitive behavior. Neither side has commented on specifics. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. But the practical effect for shooters in the US right now is: the Luna Ultra is still on shelves at B&H, the Pocket 4 Pro is still effectively unavailable through official channels, and that gap is exactly what got us here.
For the average reader: if you're shopping for a compact vlogging rig in the US right now, your shortlist is "Insta360 Luna Ultra" and "wait and see." That sucks, but it's the reality for at least the next few months. I'll write a longer piece on the legal timeline once something actually moves in court — right now it's all just filings and denials.
Fujifilm is prepping an X-T6 (quietly)
This one's smaller, but Fujifilm people will care.
Fujifilm just registered a new NP-W255 battery overseas, which is the same battery form factor used in the X-T5 and X-H2. The registration shows up in the usual certification databases that Photo Rumors tracks:

Camera battery registrations don't always lead to a new body — sometimes they show up for accessories or replacement SKUs. But the timing plus the form factor is consistent with an X-T6 announcement somewhere in the back half of 2026, probably Photokina if there is a Photokina, or a separate Fujifilm X Summit event.
If you're a Fuji X-T5 owner (and there are a lot of you), this isn't an upgrade trigger yet — the X-T5 is still one of the best APS-C bodies on the market, and frankly the rumor mill has been wrong about Fuji launches more than once. But if you've been
waiting on an X-T6 before buying your first Fuji body, this is your sign to start saving.

Nikon's running a trade-in + buying event at Samy's Camera in Pasadena through June 20 — if you're in SoCal and you've been eyeing a Z5II or ZR, that's a $100 trade-in bonus on top of normal trade value. Worth checking if you're near Pasadena this weekend.

What to watch next week
Three things on my radar going into Mon 6/22:

Will the DJI vs Insta360 case produce any public filings beyond the initial motion? Federal court dockets get updated on rolling schedules — I'm watching PACER and CourtListener for anything that breaks the seal. If we get an actual hearing date set, that changes the timeline for everyone shopping for a vlogging rig in the US.
2.
Canon's RF 20-50mm f/4 L IS USM PZ retail availability on June 24 — that's a Tuesday. If Canon sticks the landing, expect B&H and Adorama to sell out the initial allocation fast. If there's a delay, expect the rumormongers to start asking uncomfortable questions about RF lens production capacity again.
3.
Fujifilm X Summit rumors — usually Fuji teases new bodies at X Summit events with two to three weeks notice. If an X Summit is being planned for late June or early July, we'd expect to see a teaser on the official Fujifilm X channel in the next seven to ten days.

Panasonic Lumix GH7 with the
OM SYSTEM 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO II, which is a combo that gets weird looks from full-frame-or-bust people, but it's what I bring hiking, on rainy Hong Kong streets, and on every client gig. The lens news this week — especially the Sony 100-400 and Canon RF 20-50 — is great for full-frame shooters, but I do wish more of this kind of stuff came to MFT. The SG-Image 25mm f/1.8 pancake was a rare win this week.
