ELYSAS shows mirrorless-mount MUSE Air Primes at IBC 2026: 32mm F1.7 prototype, eight F1.7 focal lengths planned, Sony E and Canon RF first, MUSE LF Melted Bokeh rendering.

ELYSAS Shows 'MUSE Air Primes' for Mirrorless Mounts at IBC 2026

ELYSAS gave the first public look at its MUSE Air Primes at IBC 2026 — a smaller, lighter, mirrorless-mount version of its existing MUSE LF cine lens line. Newsshooter caught a 32mm F1.7 prototype on the booth, with a planned lineup of eight focal lengths (18, 25, 32, 50, 75, 100, 135, 200mm) all at F1.7. Sony E and Canon RF at launch, with Nikon Z and Leica L to follow. The line keeps MUSE LF's signature "Melted Bokeh" rendering. Pricing and ship date are TBD; availability is "towards the end of the year."

From an optical engineering perspective, compressing cine-grade optics into smaller mirrorless housings without introducing heavy chromatic aberration or edge vignetting is notoriously demanding. What makes the MUSE Air Primes especially noteworthy is how they balance mechanical focus throw with physical portability — an increasingly vital factor as indie cinematographers migrate from heavy studio rigs toward handheld gimbals and compact cinema bodies.

This release also mirrors a broader industry transition visible across IBC 2026. With manufacturers like Viltrox announcing their own lightweight L-Mount Air Primes and an influx of third-party mirrorless cine optics, solo operators are no longer forced to compromise between cinematic character and run-and-gun usability. For creators evaluating character glass alongside the latest modern mirrorless lens releases, the MUSE Air line signals that high-end rendering is finally shedding its cinema-scale weight penalty.

My take: I've been curious about MUSE LF since IBC 2025. If the Air line lands anywhere near MUSE LF's $1,999-per-lens launch price, character-driven glass finally gets within reach of solo shooters priced out of Cooke and Zeiss.
