Nikon announced firmware 2.00 for the ZR, adding Log3G10 in H.265, four-level high ISO NR, and focus peaking in R3D NE. Coming soon, no download date yet.

Nikon announced firmware version 2.00 for the ZR this morning, its first major update since the full-frame Z CINEMA body launched in October 2025. The headline is Log3G10 gamma in H.265 recording, which puts RED's REDWideGamutRGB colour science into a compressed codec rather than only the R3D NE RAW format.

The rest is workflow. High ISO NR becomes selectable across four levels in H.265, and ISO, exposure, white balance and WB colour temperature can be assigned to the command dials. Focus peaking now works while shooting R3D NE with a 3D LUT applied, and 3D LUTs can be applied to HDMI output. Nikon also changed the processing to suppress frame-by-frame black level fluctuation, which shows up as flicker in dark areas.

One catch: Nikon's notice says the firmware will be released "coming soon" with no download date, so this is an announcement, not something you can install this afternoon. Focus peaking for R3D NE was overdue.
