CP+ 2026: Canon Shows a Concept Cinema Camera, and Sigma Gets Busy With Lenses
CP+ 2026 is underway in Yokohama, and even though the show has only just started, the usual suspects are already teasing new gear. I've been watching the live feeds between edits because, honestly, my GH7 is great but I'm always curious about what the next shiny thing looks like.
Canon's concept camera is the most interesting thing so far
Canon brought what they're calling a concept cinema camera to the CP+ show floor. Nobody is allowed to touch it yet, but from the photos circulating, it looks like a compact box-style body with a full-frame RF mount. The speculation is that it could slot somewhere between the R5 C and Canon's higher-end cinema line, possibly aimed at solo creators who want real cinema features without renting a full Cine EOS rig.
I've been burned by Canon concepts before — they show beautiful things that take forever to ship, or they ship with half the ports I wanted. But the form factor looks promising. If Canon can put proper ND, timecode, and a usable codec into a small body, they'll have my attention.
The bigger question is whether it'll use the same RF mount and sensor pipeline as the R5 C, or whether Canon will finally separate the cinema line into something that feels like its own thing. I'll believe it when I see it.
Sigma has multiple lenses on display
Sigma is also at CP+ with what looks like a busy lens roadmap. The rumors have been pointing toward a new fast standard zoom and a couple of primes for mirrorless mounts, and based on the show floor images, Sigma is definitely showing glass that hasn't been announced yet.
I shoot mostly MFT with my GH7 setup, but Sigma's Art line has always been interesting when I borrow or rent full-frame bodies. Their recent lenses have been lighter and better balanced than the old tank-like Art series, which makes a big difference when you're running around a wedding or a corporate event.
No official pricing or availability yet. Sigma usually trickles those details out after the show, so we'll probably see more concrete announcements over the next few weeks.
What this means for most shooters
Probably not much immediately. CP+ is where companies tease the pipeline, not where they drop everything on your doorstep. But for anyone investing in RF glass or waiting for Sigma to fill a gap in their lineup, this week is worth watching.
I'll keep an eye on the hands-on reports. If anyone gets real footage out of that Canon concept body, I'll update the story.
