I have to admit — when I first heard about the original Camp Snap, I rolled my eyes a little. Another "fun little digital camera" trying to ride the disposable camera revival wave? But then I actually used one, and something clicked. There’s real charm in a camera that forces you to just shoot without overthinking.
Now Camp Snap is back with the Camp Snap 2, and they’ve actually listened to what people wanted. It’s still proudly screen-free, but everything else got better.
Smaller, Lighter, and Actually Pocketable
The most immediate improvement is the size. Camp Snap 2 is about 15% slimmer than the original. It actually slips into a jeans pocket without bulging like a brick. That might sound like a small thing, but it makes a huge difference when you’re carrying it around all day at a summer camp or just wandering a city.
The design still keeps that playful, toy-like feel, but now it comes in these gorgeous translucent jelly colors — Forest Green, Sunbeam Yellow, Strawberry Splash, and a few others. They look like something you’d find in a 1998 Limited Too catalog, and I mean that as a compliment.
Six Filters, No Apps Required
One of the biggest upgrades is the built-in filter system. The original Camp Snap had a couple of film-like looks, but the Camp Snap 2 brings six proper filters you can cycle through with a physical toggle button on the camera itself. No phone, no app, no fuss.
You get Standard, Vintage 1–3, Analog, and Black & White. They’re not trying to be scientifically accurate film simulations — they’re just fun. And that’s exactly what this camera is for.
Made for Kids, But Adults Are Buying Them Too
Camp Snap has always marketed these as cameras for summer camps — devices that let kids take photos without staring at a screen the whole time. The Camp Snap 2 leans into that even more with a new “Camp Lock” feature that disables the filters so younger users don’t get overwhelmed.
At the same time, the camera has found a second life with adults who just want something simple and joyful. Sometimes you don’t want to think about RAW files and histogram. You just want to point, shoot, and get that little dopamine hit when the flash pops.
Still the Same Joyful Philosophy
At the end of the day, the Camp Snap 2 doesn’t try to be a serious photography tool. It’s an 8-megapixel digital camera with a fixed lens and no screen. And that’s the whole point.
It’s the kind of camera you throw in a bag for a weekend trip, hand to a friend at a party, or give to a kid who’s never held anything but a phone. The photos won’t win any awards, but they’ll probably make you smile.
You can find the Camp Snap 2 on the official site at campsnapphoto.com. It’s priced at $69.95 — same as the original.
