According to the latest information from Canon Rumors, Canon plans to unveil major new products on September 9, 2025. Alongside the highly anticipated CinemaEOS C50 camera, two new lenses will be launched simultaneously. One of them has been confirmed as the RF85mm F1.4 L VCM. marking the fifth addition to Canon’s VCM prime lens series. The other lens is suspected to be a full-frame zoom with a focal length range of 11-55mm, potentially either a PZ lens or a CN-E lens (CN-E lenses are motorized zoom models compatible with attachable grips).

Based on current information, while the EOS C50 camera details remain limited, teaser images confirm it lacks an EVF. Canon may release a separate EVF accessory, potentially priced around ¥6,900 (approximately $1,000 at current exchange rates) based on comparable accessories. Additionally, the EOS C50 will feature a 32-megapixel sensor, 6K recording, cropped 4K 120P recording, triple base ISO, dual SD card slots, open-gate recording, and over 15 stops of dynamic range. It also supports C-Log 2 and C-Log 3 formats, making its imaging performance highly anticipated.

The upcoming RF85mm F1.4 L VCM will join the existing RF20mm F1.4 L VCM, RF24mm F1.4 L VCM, RF35mm F1.4 L VCM, and RF50mm F1.4 L VCM to complete Canon’s VCM prime lens lineup, filling the gap in the 85mm focal length range. Given the characteristics of previous VCM series lenses and its simultaneous release with the EOS C50, this new lens will likely continue the series’ video-oriented design. It should maintain the series’ consistently high standards in handling, autofocus, and optical performance, meeting the demands of professional video creation. Another full-frame lens rumored to cover the 11-55mm focal length range, if ultimately released, could become an additional wide-angle zoom option alongside the existing “F2.8 USM Z” lenses, further expanding Canon’s RF mount lens lineup.

Regarding pricing, referencing the pricing of comparable lenses in Canon’s VCM series (such as the RF 50mm f/1.4L VCM priced at $1,399 overseas), and factoring in current exchange rates and the tendency for domestic pricing to be higher, the RF 85mm F1.4L VCM is projected to have an overseas price of approximately $1,699 (around ¥13,500 RMB). The exact price will be officially announced at the September 9th launch event. While detailed specifications for the other new lens being released simultaneously remain undisclosed, Canon’s recent product strategy suggests it will likely maintain the high-performance positioning characteristic of the RF mount.

It’s worth noting that recent clues indicate the Canon EOS R6 Mark III is nearing release, with the Sony A7M5 expected around the same time. Predictions suggest both may feature significant upgrades or minor refinements. A minor update alone could draw criticism and ultimately lead to poor sales, as seen with the Sony FX2.
