September 6, 2025: Nikon Rumors recently released new product rumors concerning Nikon, focusing primarily on the video-centric Z series camera “Zr.” The report revealed numerous specifications, including the potential use of the same sensor as the Z6 III, in-body image stabilization, and support for dual SD and microSD card slots.
The Nikon Zr adopts a compact “brick-like” body design optimized for video capture. It omits a pentaprism and electronic viewfinder, blending design elements from RED’s current models, the Sony FX3, and the Nikon Z30. This configuration balances professional video handling requirements with portability.
Core hardware includes the same 24MP sensor found in the Nikon Z6 III. This sensor inherently offers strong resistance to image distortion and flicker during video capture, aligning perfectly with the camera’s dedicated video positioning. It also features an oversized LCD screen, providing clear and intuitive visual support for framing, parameter adjustments, and footage review, enabling creators to operate efficiently across various scenarios.
For video capabilities, the Zr supports 6K resolution recording using an intra-frame compression format that maximizes preservation of original video detail, providing ample room for post-production editing and color grading. The body also incorporates built-in image stabilization to effectively counteract hand shake during shooting, ensuring stable footage during mobile recording.
For storage interfaces, the Zr features one SD card slot and one microSD card slot. This dual-slot configuration accommodates large-capacity media storage while facilitating data backup. However, high-capacity SD cards remain costly, and it remains unclear whether this design prioritizes HDMI output workflows or relies on RED’s compression technology to ensure SD/microSD cards meet video storage demands.
